A Stitch in Time

WE’VE FINISHED THE LAST PANEL AND THE QUILTS ARE ON THEIR WAY TO BE COMPLETED BY DAISY MAY QUILTERS IN IPSWICH.

Trumpington Stitchers have recently been leading a public art  project called “Trumpington 2016 – a Stitch in Time”.

The aim of the project was to create a piece of textile art about life in Trumpington today, reflecting life in a growing community combining old and new. We did it!

The first quilt (Quilt A) was put together at a sashing workshop by the Stitchers themselves. The second quilt, (Quilt B) together with the special group panels being created by two Trumpington churches, (Quilt C and Quilt D ) will be completed by Valerie and John at Daisy May.

We are hoping to have the quilts on display at the April meeting of the Trumpington Residents’ Association, without whose support we would not have been able to complete the project.

Although the main project will then be complete, we do still have a beautiful textile map of Trumpington to finish as a final group activity during 2017, ready for the launch of the new community centre on Hobson Square in the summer. This will feature the artwork created by the youth group during their batik workshop, and other embellishments from anyone interested in taking part at this stage. Contact us

Workshops and Tutorials

Thanks to the public art project, we were able to hold a series of tutored workshops during 2016 to help us develop a variety of different skills. We will be practising  and developing these at our weekly Trumpington Stitchers meetings, where members share their skills and explore possibilities together.
